Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - This is an elegant web site that uses javascript dropdown menus. I duplicated the look with no tables and used css dropdown menus to accomplish the same look. I left the hover effects on the dropdown options because I feel that they communicate more to the user. The web site is dynamic so information is being updated periodically.
My layout was tested on Internet Explorer 7 and the latest versions of Firefox, Opera, Safari (Windows version), and Google's Chrome. Original site can be seen here.
Massage Harmony - This web site is simple but nice. It has a repeating flash banner that communicates a relaxing message. Simple navigation that works with CSS hover effects. I spent a little more time than I should have trying to duplicate the look as precisely as possible. The result could have been served better with a more conventional coding approach. The emblem was sliced in half. I would have taken a different approach but the result is fine. There is more HTML text on my version which should make it SEO friendly. Boundless Network - The moment I saw this web page, I wanted to play with it. The original uses many detailed image slices so it required many div's to render the result. I changed the menu images and used CSS to create the hover effect. The links are not active except for those leading to the original web site. I edited the javascript to make it a little lighter. Also, the javascript code was not working in Opera, so I made a small change to make it work on that browser. It is web standard complaint and works with the latest browsers and has a 'strict' doc type. The original site can be seen here.
Thinkwell - This web site uses image maps to navigate it's site. If you are able to view the source code, you will notice coordinate entries for all the clickable areas. (A lot of code.) Although the images have alt tag info, text is a better choice for search engine crawlers. I like the simplicity of it's look and the color. There is a pop-up box that appears when you click on the appropriate button and a mapped button to close it. I chose a hover effect that disappears once you go beyond the exterior of the box. Just a different approach not necessarily a better way. To see the original site click here.
